The deadliest virus...

Hi friends

I am sorry for being gone for a long time now. I promise that I shall start posting good stuff regularly from now on (and this time, it shall be a promise that I would not want to break).

Why the hiatus? Let's just say it was a small break, one which I would not like to talk about in detail. But I do want to say I am thankful to the many people who kept exhorting me to start writing once more, especially guys who, in my knowledge, had never read my blog before ! Thank you folks, and I small not disappoint you further. I am not using the word "try" because this time, it's not a "try to do" but a "will do" thingie :)

Just to start of, I am sharing a post that I happened to share in my "official" blog, which I have deleted just now...

Meeting regarding implementation of a new IT system.

ParticipantsMr. X (A top-ranked official in STC), Mr. A (IIT+IIM graduate from PWC), Mr. B (from NIC, India) and some smart STC officials...

LocationSTC Library (Varun usually goes there to study the paper, and happened to see this. Events are not reproduced verbatim, however the essence is retained)

September, 2010; 12:10 am:

Mr. X (with an air of confidence): Well, we get the reason why modules P,Q and R (blah blah blah) are necessary, but why is module S needed here? I don't see any need of that being a part of the ERP at all - it seems to be a burden...

Mr. A: Well sir, Module S is designed to make sure your system has a backup, and also protect your system from any external virus attack. It makes sure that the systems remain functioning even in the case of any virus attack, so that you do not lose any data, and continue operations, especially with your branches.

Mr. X: Ok, but when the H1N1 Swine Flu virus was spreading all over the world, everything was disrupted and trading became chaotic. How will this system be useful in case of such a deadly virus attacks?

(Varun could help but overhear this statement and sees Mr. A and Mr. B, and the WTF look in their faces)

Mr. B (clearing his throat): Sir, I think what he meant a computer virus, and not a biological virus.

Mr. X (may be embarrassed, but not amused): Oh, ok. That's fine then.

Varun: (Facepalm+WTF+FML+LOL) at the same time (It's possible, trust me)

Just another day in the life of a Sarkari Babu.  So what do you think?

Some of the reactions that I had got for my earlier post (both from FB and Blogger):

Nitin: Dude do you have any idea of the the system given to me...Its windows 95, 128 mb ram 10 gb hdd, office '97, 533 mhz processor. And the irony is that I used to work for "Some COMPUTER SOFTWARE Company" accrding to my elite section of colleagues who want ERP and god knows what....Damn be my stars and long live STC...

Raji Aunty: Nice :)

Shubham Singh: We do share some things in common ofcourse :D I can relate your experience with mine.  I am the GOD of systems who can make 'PROGRAMS' on MS Excel, format a computer, install any damn software including 'ANTIVIRUS DEVICE' and fix those seemingly tedious but silly khatar patar :P I also know how to attach many attachments in a mail, convert word/excel into pdf, open many tabs in a single explorer window, listen to radio on explorer, knows what ERP is - There's a long list :)

Mayank Goel: Oh nice. As a PwC consultant I feel intelligent :P

Sunil Kumar Bishi: Varun - How could I miss a personal briefing of such a great development. Infact, I will talk to you in person to confirm the name of Mr.X and ascertain that my guess is appropriate.
