Birthday Dissected (25th September)

Hi

It’s strange that two of my posts deal with a topic that I rarely discuss – my birthday. It’s a very sensitive topic for me, because my notions of b’days are not the same as that of most of the other people I know. But I do know that there are only 365 days in a year (with nearly 75% accuracy), there is always bound to be something interesting that must have happened on that day. Well, I set out to discover some interesting fact about my birthday, and was amazed at what I discovered.

A lot of interesting events happened on my birthday. People were born, people died and some ground-breaking events took place all over the world. Some of the famous people born on this day include:

1. Catherine Zeta Jones (1969) and her husband Michael Douglas (1944) were both born on this day. I envy Mike for two reasons: (a) Catherine has been my childhood fantasy and is still the most beautiful celebrity in my eyes and (b) He even saves money on the birthday party L

2. Will Smith (1968), Christopher Reeve – who played Superman in the earlier movies (1952) and Scotty Pippen, MJ’s team partner when playing for Chicago Bulls (1965)

3. William Faulkner (1897) was a Nobel Prize-winning American author and a 2-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize.

4. Robert Gates (1943), American Secretary of Defense J

5. Hansie Cronje (1969), South African Cricket Captain

Going deeper into history of really under-rated, but famous people born on my birthday, whose list you can find here at this link: CLICK HERE FOR LINK

I also had a few famous deaths on my birthday. They are:

1. John Dean "Jeff" Cooper (Died September 25, 2006) was recognized as the father of what is commonly known as “the Modern Technique” of handgun shooting, and was considered by many to be one of the 20th century's foremost international experts on the use and history of small arms.

The rest were names I never heard before.

Coming to events, it’s a really interesting date. You’ll see from the few events below:

1. Nuclear Tests: As many as 8 nuclear tests were performed by four countries on my birthday! They include USSR (1962, 1980, 1982, 1983), USA (1974, 1980), China (1992) and Great Britain (1957). Looks like this date was a very explosive one indeed! Also on this very day in 1949, the Pope asked the world leaders to end the development of bigger and more destructive Nuclear weapons and use the money to help some of the worlds needy and starving.

2. 1844: The first ever international cricket game was between the USA and Canada

3. 1956: The first underwater telephone service from the United States to Europe began this day using two 2,250 mile cables under the Atlantic Ocean!

4. 1639: 1st printing press in America

5. 1888 and 1890: Start of Sherlock Holmes adventures “Hound of Baskervilles” and “Silver Blaze”

6. 1988: Florence Griffith Joyner runs Olympic record 100m in 10.54s

Well, as you can see, I have dissected by birthday in a very clinical fashion. What do you think?
